The answer can actually go both ways. It's a matter of understanding what your body needs first and then being realistic to what you can commit to. Both have their own benefits but "What actually suits YOU?" is probably the real question.
Let’s have a look at both options to see what works best for you.
Group Classes
Let’s start off with Group Pilates Classes which is quite popular.
Community Building and Good Fun! - You get to meet new people from different walks of life. Group classes can also be fun as you get to feed off each others vibe especially if you have an enthusiastic instructor.
Types of Group Classes -There are also a variety of group classes which can cater to specific needs such as full body workouts, legs, arms and all of these would have some core component to it.
Pilates Equipment- Select either a Mat-Based Group Class that uses body weight and small props. Or a Reformer-Based Group Class which is a resistance-based class using spring tension to challenge your strength, stability and balance against a moving carriage.
Price Point - Price point does vary as Reformer Classes are considered a premium given the cost of the equipment. Mat Classes can be cost-effective with rates comparable to yoga classes.
Class Timings and Frequency - If your the type of person who does Pilates regularly and need to slot classes to suit your busy schedule, Group Pilates Class be for you! It would not just be economical but you'll be able to slot this in your schedule in advance!
Private Pilates
For Private Pilates Classes, there are quite a number of advantages One of which is the tailor-made exercises suited for your posture and needs. This is recommended for first-time Pilates clients as a 1-1 session enables you to have a "conversation" with your instructor and ask questions. A strong Pilates foundation is quintessential to ensure proper form and less injuries.
Secondly, your goals and needs are essentially the only priority of the instructor during that workout. You have your instructors undivided attention that makes your Pilates workout highly efficient.
Privates are also recommended for those who have post-rehabilitation needs such as recovering from an injury or chronic pain, Pre or Post Natal, or any bone/ muscle condition that needs extra special care and attention. The one-to-one session will help improve your Pilates technique, build knowledge and awareness of your body and even take you to the next level.
